Transposing. Is it always necessary?

I’m finding that many of the baroque traverso pieces I enjoy playing on alto recorder do not actually need to be transposed entirely. Some of them sound really nice played at the lower ranges, with only a few measure that actually need to be transposed up. I’m wondering if this is just my preference for rich lower tones that are showing through. I really want to play the tenor but as of yet I still cannot reach the holes. It truly makes me sad. I get why the voice flute is becoming popular. I would love to have one but theyre such a specialty.
